The Africa-Europe Challenge (AEC) is not only the first yacht race ever to be organized around Africa, but also a series of adjoined cultural, economic and charity programmes. AEC enjoys the highest level of support from the European Union and the African Union. (For further information about AEC please visit www.africaeuropechallenge.com or see the attached document.)
Present members of the Africa-Europe Challenge Patron Committee:
- Mr Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development at the European Commission
- Mr Louis Michel, Co-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly
- Dr. Pál Schmitt, President of the Republic of Hungary
- H. E. Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal State of Nigeria- Mr László Tőkés, Vice-President of the European Parliament
- Mr György Wossala, President of the European Sailing Federation.
Besides its truly international nature, the AEC has a special Dutch element as the famous Tall Ship Astrid will participate in the sailing competition.
Additionally, the economic programmes of the project provide excellent opportunities for Dutch companies to further develop their business ties with the African continent, thanks to the 15 African stops of the sailing.
In the hope that we could raise your interest for the AEC, we are looking forward to seeing you on 4 October.
