SkyCourt is the biggest investment project of Budapest Airport
The development of the airport has arrived at a major milestone. The goal of Budapest Airport is to become a leading airport of Central-Eastern Europe both in terms of passenger growth and quality of services. To achieve this goal, the company is engaged in a considerable development program investing EUR 261 million (about HUF 75 billion) until the end of 2011 in order to extend its capacity. The most spectacular element of the program is the construction of SkyCourt connecting Terminal 2A and 2B.
The construction of SkyCourt is the biggest investment project of Budapest Airport so far, the scale of which is illustrated by the fact that the volume of steel used for its structural units would be enough for a smaller sport stadium as well. The KÖZTI designer team headed by Zoltán Tima combined steel and glass to create a spacious shell-shaped building connecting the existing terminals.
An awe-inspiring space flooded with light and minimalist surfaces make up the SkyCourt, the new landmark building of Budapest which will win the hearts of all visitors coming to our country and ensure that in addition to the reconstructed Terminal 1 – which won the Europa Nostra award for architecture – Terminal 2 would also be a worthy gateway to the capital of Hungary.
