Belgian-owned suitcase manufacturer Samsonite is preparing to enhance the volumes of its Hungarian production plant in Szekszárd (SW Hungary).

The company is investing HUF 550 million in constructing a new 4,000 sqm production hall at its site, and additional HUF 700 million in installing new production lines. Samsonite hopes to obtain EU funding for both investments, which will create 50 new jobs and increase production capacity to an annual 2,400 units to around 2,700-2,800 once the new lines are operating in late 2011. Samsonite has been producing middle-size polypropylene suitcases since 2008 at its Szekszárd site, and has increased both its production and staff numbers over the past two years.

This evolution is reflected by the company's revenues, which could hit HUF 10 billion in 2011 after an anticipated income of HUF 6 billion in 2010.October 11, 2010
